When Damascene was 4 years old he could not walk. The island he lives on in Lake Kivu does not have enough food to feed its population and many go hungry. It was a desperate situation and without immediate intervention Damascene was going to die. The local government health center had tried to help him- but could not see any difference being made.
That’s when the Anglican Church stepped in. The Diocese of Cyangugu began a feeding program with children on the island to provide desperately needed calories and nutrients. The program focuses on helping children spiritually, intellectually and physically and after two years Damascene has made tremendous progress in every area.
He took his first steps a year ago- and thanks to the Anglican Church he has a path forward with Christ.
